Shu Qi ilk önce erkek dergilerinde ve erotik fotoğraf sektöründe model olarak isim yapmıştır. Erotik filmlerle ünlendikten sonra önemli Hong Kong filmlerinde rol almaya başlamıştır.
Genellikle Shu Qi`nin ``The Transporter`` filmindeki Lai Kwai rolü için İngilizce öğrendiği söylenir; ancak aslında bu dili öğrenmemiş, yalnızca repliklerini ezberlemekle yetinmiştir. Son zamanlarda yaptığı yurtdışı seyahatler sayesinde İngilizcesi ilerlemiştir.
2005`te Hou Hsiao-Hsien`nin ``Three Times`` adlı filminde canlandırdığı üç değişik rolle Altın At Ödülü`nü (Golden Horse Awards) kazanmıştır.
