Tarihçe RTV'nin, Nickelodeon'ın Türkiye'deki dağıtımını üstlenmek için Viacom International'la antlaşması sonucunda 10 Aralık 1997'de kurulmuştur. Bu dönemde yalnızca Kablo TV'den yayın yapan kanal, RTV'nin lisansörü olduğu bir diğer kanal olan Discovery Channel ile aynı frekans üzerinden dönüşümlü yayın yapmıştır. 2001'de Nickelodeon'ın Türkiye'deki isim hakları el değiştirerek MCD'ye geçmiştir. Nickelodeon, 31 Mart 2010'da Türkiye'de de diğer birçok ülkede olduğu gibi logo ve grafiklerin değişikliğine gitmiştir. Digiturk, 22 Mayıs 2010'da MTV Türkiye ile birlikte Nickelodeon'ı kanalları arasından kaldırılmıştır. 2 Haziran 2010 günü MTV Networks International, Türkiye dağıtımını yapan Multi Channel Developers ile lisans anlaşmasını tek taraflı feshetmiştir. Bu durumun ardından çıkan MTVNI-MCD krizi sonucu, MCD yayınlarına devam ederken internet sitelerinin IP adresleri ise MTVNI tarafından iptal edilmiştir. Tarafların sulh anlaşması yapmasıyla MCD, kanalların Türkiye lisanslarını MTVNI'a devretti ve 31 Ağustos 2011'de MCD'nin yaptığı Nickelodeon yayınları sona erdi; MTVNI bunun yerine Nickelodeon'ın Avrupa kanalını yayına soktu. Bir süre D-Smart üzerinden Avrupa yayınıyla İngilizce olarak ve CNBC-e'de Türkçe yayın yapan bir yayın kuşağından yayın yapmıştır. Nickelodeon'ın Türkiye yayın hakları Şubat 2012'de Çukurova Holding'e bağlı Digiturk platformuna geçti. 29 Şubat'ı 1 Mart Perşembe gününe bağlayan gece yarısı saat 24.00'te D-Smart platformundan ayrılıp Digiturk 172. kanalda İngilizce ve Türkçe dil seçeneği ile yayına başlamıştır. 1 Mayıs 2012'de Nickelodeon'un okul öncesi kanalı olan Nick Jr. Türkiye'de yayına başlamıştır. 2013 yılında Viacom, TMSF ile anlaştı.
